Before UConn joined Hockey East for the 2014-15 season, it had been a member of Atlantic Hockey, playing the likes of Robert Morris and Mercyhurst in the intimate campus setting of the Freitas Ice Forum.
But even in those days the Huskies were developing professional quality players and none was better than forward Cole Schneider.
Schneider left the Huskies following the 2011-12 season after setting UConn Division I points and goal-scoring records with 23 goals and 22 assists. That record still stands. In his two seasons with the Huskies, Schneider recorded more points (78) at the time than any sophomore in UConn Division I history which began in 1998.
