UConn's Masonius Taken By Penguins In NHL Draft

One day after Tage Thompson became the 26th overall pick in the 2016 NHL Draft by the St. Louis Blues, his UConn teammate, rising sophomore defenseman Joseph Masonius of Spring Lake, N.J., was selected by the Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins in the sixth round (181st overall).

Masonius is the second Husky drafted by the Penguins, joining defensemen Ryan Segalla, taken by Pittsburgh in the fourth round of the 2013 draft. Masonius attended Pittsburgh's development camp last summer before coming to Storrs to join the Huskies.
