Geoff Sanderson had just turned 19 when he began his NHL career at the Hartford Civic Center in 1991.
His new professional life was starting about 3,000 miles from where he was born in Hay River, Northwest Territories, and he knew nothing about Hartford.
"All I thought was, this is the NHL," Sanderson said this week. "That's why it was special."
And it still is. Sanderson went on play for eight franchises over 17 seasons, but it all began with the Whalers.
So when the Hartford Wolf Pack invited Sanderson to return for "Hartford Hockey Heritage Weekend," he didn't hesitate. He lives in Alberta with his wife and three sons, far removed...
