UConn fans seemed to be having a good chuckle at how close El-Mir's name is to one of the iconic figures in the school's athletic history.
Khalid El-Amin may be from Minnesota, the great cradle of American amateur hockey, but the joyfully chubby lead guard on UConn's first national basketball championship team in 1999 is also about as far away from a hockey player as you can get.
Khalid also is one of those larger-than-life personalities people do not forget.
