Quick-starting Blast blows by Lancers, 19-8, for eighth straight win
With a 19-8 victory Saturday over the host Rochester Lancers, the Blast extended its winning streak in Major Arena Soccer League play to eight games. The game got off to a slow start, with both teams applying defensive pressure. The Blast (8-0) took an early lead when forward Adauto Neto scored the first goal of the game 2:48 into the first quarter off an assist from defender Pat Healey (Towson, Calvert Hall). Less than three minutes later, forward Tony Donatelli scored his sixth goal of the year to put the Blast up by four. Both teams picked up the pace in the second quarter. At the 3:25 mark, forward Lucas Roque beat the Lancers goalkeeper on a breakaway for his team-leading 13th goal of the year. The lead grew after midfielder Max Ferdinand found the back of the net off an assist from Roque. After halftime, the Lancers finally got on the board, but the Blast answered when midfielder Lucio Gonzaga placed a ball perfectly into the corner of the net for a three-point goal. Moments later, Roque scored his second goal of the game and pushed the Blast's lead to 11. Forward Levin Houpeau scored a short-handed goal, Roque completed his hat trick with his third goal of the game, and Donatelli converted on a power play to seal the victory. Blast goalkeeper William Vanzela had 16 saves.
