Canton Task Force Seeks Public Input On School Sports Programs

A task force charged with developing a strategic plan for the nearly three dozen sports teams in the town schools, including how to pay for them, will ask for ideas from residents at a forum in September.

The board of education established the task force in February and at that time was facing renewed pressure to spend more on sports programs, which receive some money from the district but rely heavily on fundraising by booster clubs. A report done several years ago by the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference recommended the board boost its funding commitment.
