Freshman quarterback Drew Pyne, who wasn't alive for Lou Marinelli's second state football championship in 1993, let alone his first in 1982, didn't blink once before twice reaching for the superlative.

"Best coach ever," Pyne said after he threw two touchdown passes in New Canaan's 35-20 victory over Windsor for the CIAC Class L title. "He gives us motivation before every game, before every practice. He is the best in every single aspect of the sport. He gives us so much energy.

"We won the last four state championships. Best coach ever."
