Rufino Medina Jr. has been sober for eight years.
On Saturday, he ran his first marathon.
“Running was like a lifeline to me,” said Medina, of Farmington. “It really helped me out. I turned 48 [this week]. I never imagined I’d be running a full marathon. It’s just something I’m checking off my bucket list.”
Medina finished the Eversource Hartford Marathon in 4:43:24. He and others were running to support Mental Health Connecticut, a Hartford Marathon charity and a service, education and advocacy non-profit based in West Hartford.
