CROMWELL — Luke Donald came into this week's Travelers Championship looking not only for his first win since 2012, but also to qualify for the British Open in July.
He missed out on the victory by five strokes, but he did get his name into the Open field. Just barely.
To make it into the season's third major, Donald had to register a Top-12 finish and be one of the top four players at the Travelers that had also yet to qualify for the Open.
Donald, from England, shot a 4-under 66 at TPC River Highlands on Sunday, moving him to an 11-under 269 for the tournament. He finished tied for seventh, securing his spot at St. Andrews.
