A few years ago, Travelers Championship tournament director Nathan Grube was walking the course at another PGA Tour event when he was stopped by someone representing a sponsor.
“He said, ‘Man, how did you guys get so lucky with that week after the Open?’” Grube said. “And I almost burst out laughing. Man, how times have changed. Because I remember when people were offering their condolences.”
Aside from 2016, when a move to August was necessary due to the Olympics, the tournament has taken place in the June week following the U.S. Open every year since Travelers took over as title sponsor in 2007. It was held the same week many years prior, too.
