CROMWELL – Greg Owen's ball hit the red carpet, spun to the left and disappeared.
"Is that in?" Owen asked to his playing partners and anyone listening.
It wasn't. But it was sure close. Owen had just missed a hole-in-one on the floating red umbrella, which resides in the body of the water between the 15th, 16th and 17th hole.
The Englishman's ball rested about 18 inches from the pin after taking a shot from a makeshift tee box behind the 16th.
A little later in the afternoon, Brian Gay landed his shot on what appeared to be the edge of the cup and gave his caddie a high-five.
