Defending champion Adam Rainaud carded a 4-under par 68 to hold a one-stroke lead after the first round of the Connecticut PGA Championship at The Ranch Golf Club in Southwick, Mass. Rainaud from Black Hall Club in Old Lyme, went 33-35. Billy Downes of GreatHorse CC-Hampden, Mass., was in second place with a 69. Ron Dellostritto of Wethersfield CC scored a hole-in-one at the 170-yard eighth. The tournament is the Connecticut qualifier for the PGA Professional Championship June 26-29 at Turning Stone Resort's Atunyote and Shenendoah Courses in upstate New York.
