Local Golf Notebook: More Than $9M For Charities Since 1st Travelers Championship In 2007

When Travelers stepped in to save the annual PGA Tour event in Connecticut as its title sponsor, Chairman and CEO Jay Fishman told Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem: "I promise you we will make this event right."'

Fishman was right.

More than $9 million has been generated for area charities since the first Travelers Championship in 2007. The purse, which was $4.4 million in '06, was $6.4 million for the event in late June.

The spirit, determination and accomplishments of those involved with the tournament at Travelers have been impressive. Fishman credits a collaborative effort that has helped the tournament be a mainstay on the tour.
