Newport News Shipbuilding (formerly Northrop Grumman Newport News), a subsidiary of Huntington Ingalls Industries, has designed, built, overhauled and repaired a wide variety of ships for the U.S. Navy and commercial customers for more than a century. The Newport News, Virginia, shipyard is Hampton Roads' largest private employer, with more than 21,000 workers, many of whom are third and fourth generation shipbuilders.
