  • Brad Biggs' Bears mailbag

Although I think he's done a decent job overall, one thing I don't like about Phil Emery's draft philosophy is his emphasis on “versatility.” I believe this is just a way for Emery to cover his behind in case the player he drafts doesn't pan out at the position he started out in on the team. Obviously the perfect examples are Shea McClellin and Jon Bostic. Both are competing this year at strong-side linebacker after failing at the position Emery drafted them to play. I would much rather have a player who's very good at one thing than a jack-of-all-trades, master of none. I don't think Emery will ever be able to live down passing on Chandler Jones -- a great pure pass rusher who most people projected him to pick -- in favor of McClellin with his very first draft pick as general manager of the Bears. Do you believe he's learned from his mistakes in this area? – Matt M., Richardson, Texas

The question isn’t who will replace Julius Peppers. No, the question is who couldn’t. You there, reading this piece on your laptop, get in there at right defensive end for the next snap. You couldn’t lose outside contain much worse...
