Husky Wins Pan-Am 1,500
Eric Van Der Els, who will be a sophomore at UConn, won the 1,500-meter run Sunday at the Pan American Junior Championships in a meet record 3:43.16 in Lima, Peru. He topped the previous record of 3:45.72 set by Mike Woods of the United States in 2005. Kyle Madden of Canada finished second Sunday in 3:44.19, while Cooper Yeare of the United States was third in 3:46.46. Another Husky about to start his sophomore year, Cameron Thompson, finished fourth in the hammer throw Friday with a mark of 66.84 meters.
