    Navy's Gillingham strikes out first 12 batters of game
    Navy junior starting pitcher Luke Gillingham struck out the first 12 batters of the game as Navy opened its baseball season with an 8-1 rout of North Carolina A&T on Friday in temperatures in the low 30s in Greensboro, N.C. Gillingham struck out 16 and allowed one hit in seven innings. The 16 strikeouts are the most by a Midshipmen since 1986 and tie him for fifth all time with Chuck Davis (1959) and Dennis Losh (1969). "What Luke did right out of the gate, striking out the first 12 guys and finishing with 16 total, was impressive to say the least," Navy coach Paul Kostacopoulos said. "The numbers say it all about his pitching performance today. It was extremely cold today and for him to get right in the strike zone and stay there all day like he did was outstanding."
