  • New Ravens quarterbacks coach Rick Dennison has diverse coaching background

Rick Dennison was a linebacker by trade for nine seasons with the Denver Broncos, not a quarterback. Although Dennison has never been a quarterbacks coach before, he's worked closely with them in his capacity as an offensive coordinator. Now, Dennison...
  • Smug Cutler still Bears' best choice

Nobody in the Bears organization offered anything but high acclaim for backup quarterback Josh McCown the past month as he became Chicago's darling and one of the NFL's best stories. Until Jay Cutler returned to the Bears lineup and the lectern Thursday...

Bears unable to control line in loss to Lions
Bears right guard Kyle Long bowed his head and rested it in one hand as he sat at his locker still wearing his jersey and pads. A few feet away, left guard Matt Slauson sat at his stall with a pinch of tobacco in his lower lip. In hushed tones, he...
  • Expect McCown to be under duress

Expect McCown to be under duress
The Bears and Josh McCown have to expect extreme pressure from the Ravens defense in third-down situations. That means multiple fronts, overload concepts and creative looks that put stress on both the quarterback and the protection scheme. As shown...

Strong bond between Bears' Trestman, Browns' Kosar
Believe it or not, the biggest decision Marc Trestman ever made that played out in Cleveland had nothing to do with which Bears quarterback to start Sunday against the Browns. Back in 1988, Trestman was the Browns quarterback coach and was out...

Payoff on fourth-down call may be Trestman's buy-in moment
In a tunnel inside Lambeau Field before the Bears changed their season by beating the Packers on Monday night, coach Marc Trestman succinctly answered a question that explained a lot about what would happen over the next couple of hours — and...
  • Marshall and Jeffery double trouble for Browns

Marshall and Jeffery double trouble for Browns
The Bears and Marc Trestman can use some window dressing Sunday in Cleveland with their pre-snap alignments to run the "sail" route against the Browns. It's a three-level concept that gives quarterback Jay Cutler multiple options to target a Cover-3...

    10 Bears-Packers season-enders
Here's a look at the other Bears-Packers season finales: 2010: Packers 10-3. Jan. 2, 2011, Lambeau Field. Locked in a 3-3 tie, Aaron Rodgers connected on a 1-yard scoring pass to Donald Lee with 2 minutes, 50 seconds to play to give the Packers the...
  • Biggs: Bears more productive with McCown at QB

Biggs: Bears more productive with McCown at QB
You don't need to be a football lifer or have the eye of a scout to determine Jay Cutler is a superior athlete to Josh McCown with a much stronger arm. Similarly, you don't need to have an analytics background to determine the offense scores more points...
  • Bears need more than Jay Cutler to beat Packers

Bears need more than Jay Cutler to beat Packers
At the risk of making my computer wonder if it was hacked, duty compels me to report Jay Cutler connected logically during a news conference Thursday at Halas Hall. Barely anybody noticed. The focus understandably centered on how Cutler behaved...
  • Lance Briggs can't work miracles for Bears

Lance Briggs can't work miracles for Bears
Presumably, Bears players remain undivided in their support of linebacker Lance Briggs returning to start Sunday night against the Eagles. There will be no whispers, controversy or anonymous sources this week. Everybody in Chicago agrees the Bears...
