Put. Down. The capris.

Our annual stakeout of summer fashion crimes nabs capris, bra creep as persistent offenders

It's that time of year again when I put on my fashion cop uniform and hit the streets — on the lookout for the fashion felons who lurk in plain sight.

With photographer Zbigniew Bzdak documenting the clothing crimes, I've put together my annual summer "What Were You Thinking?" report. (To see them, scroll through the gallery above -- be sure to hit the "captions" button to read the captions!)

As always, my goal is positive: to help you avoid style strikeouts similar to those shown here. The hope is that the "Don'ts" on this page will remind you to look in the mirror before you leave the house.

But I've got some surprising — no, flabbergasting — news. The fashion crime rate is down, way down.

See the photo gallery here.

In years past, it was hard to select from the huge number of you're-hurting-my-eyes instances of bad wardrobe choices. But you've classed up your act! Congratulations.

For sure there were still some bad decisions on display but also some outstanding examples of great fashion sense.

To encourage continued good behavior, I'm including some photos of fashion "Do's" to inspire you.

And … keep up the good work!
