Minnesota earns back-to-back Big Ten victories
Anyone older than say, 80, might remember how good Minnesota football used to be. The Gophers have a long, storied football history — just not in this millennium. Did you know Minnesota won the very first Associated Press national title in 1936?...

College football: What games to watch on TV
Each week our national college football writer describes how he would handle the television remote Saturday, handicapping what's worth watching, and skipping: MORNING No. 13 Georgia (4-1) at No. 23 Missouri (4-1) 9 a.m., Channel 2 This game is...
  • QB J.T. Barrett coming into his own for resurgent Ohio State

The Big Ten's most efficient passer is not the guy viewed as a potential No. 1 pick in the NFL draft. Penn State's Christian Hackenberg actually ranks 10th in that category. The top quarterback has not been Michigan State's Connor Cook, the offensive...

Ohio State will be team to beat in Big Ten in 2015, but questions remain
ARLINGTON, Texas — We can't help ourselves. Moments after Ohio State reached college football's pinnacle Monday night, a reporter asked Buckeyes tight end Jeff Heuerman about next year's team — a team that Heuerman, a senior, won't even be...

A big day for the Big Ten, with one little exception: Michigan

USC's Ed Orgeron has done well so far, but can he keep it up?
Halfway through your story today I got a sick feeling and tossed the sports section into the couch. What exactly would a "big name" coach do for SC that Ed Orgeron can't do, recruit? Paul Hovsepian Hope you're feeling better and thanks, really, for...
  • Tailback Ameer Abdullah is Nebraska's spark plug

If you follow college football, you've seen the ugly record: The Big Ten is 1-10 against teams from the Power Five conferences and Notre Dame. Instead of East and West, should the conference change its division names to Doom and Gloom? But it's not...

Ten-game Big Ten schedule would solve conference's issues
What if there was a way to make Big Ten season ticket holders happier, to give players a better experience, to get more cash from TV partners, to create a more legitimate conference champion, to impress the playoff selection committee and to avoid writing...

Trevor Siemian eager to get NU passing game going
After one week, Northwestern's passing game rates 92nd nationally out of 120 teams. To add a sorry footnote, NU's issues came against a Cal pass defense that last season rated among the nation's 10 worst. So no wonder quarterback Trevor Siemian said...
  • Oregon represents next step for Michigan State

Oregon represents next step for Michigan State
They huddled early in the week, the wannabe football coach and the actual football coach. Make no mistake: Michigan State basketball coach Tom Izzo believes a standard field goal should be worth two points, not three, and a guard should not play with...
