  • Serena Williams Fights Cold, Shakes Off Sharapova Again

It's hard to imagine that Tom Brady's Super Bowl week cold was worse than what Serena Williams was battling during the Australian Open. Williams was sick for the past week and she couldn't shake the cold, right up until the finals on Saturday. But she didn't use garlic, Brady's remedy, to dispose of Maria Sharapova in the title match. Once again, Sharapova couldn't beat Williams and the Great Serena added the 19th Grand Slam title to her resume. She has beaten Sharapova in 16 consecutive meeting and is 17-2 overall against her rival. Really, Sharapova isn't her rival because she can't compete with Williams, who coughed her way through Saturday's 6-3, 7-6 (5) win. Williams' 19 Grand Slam titles place her third on the all-time list behind Margaret Court (24) and Steffi Graf (22). She's 33, but Williams will climb to the top of the list.
