HARTFORD — While UConn was attending to business on the floor of the XL Center, its athletic director, Warde Manuel, was offering parting words to the media in another room as he prepared to depart for the University of Michigan.
Live long enough, and change in life is inevitable. Just Friday, Geno Auriemma needed a second hand to count all of the athletic directors he was worked for since John Toner brought him to town in 1985.
The point is, Auriemma's program, more than any other component of UConn's athletic department, has sustained its greatness throughout the many transitions at its top. Continuity throughout various administrations has been its trademark.
