    Defenseman Mike Green signed a three-year, $18 million contract with the Detroit Red Wings, according to reports, formally closing the door on his tenure with the Washington Capitals. Green, a first-round draft pick of the Capitals in 2004 and a two-time runner-up for the Norris Trophy, which honors the league's best defenseman, has spent his entire career with Washington, amassing 113 goals and 247 assists in 575 games. He is the second-highest-scoring defenseman in the NHL over the past eight seasons. He had 10 goals and 35 assists last season. The Capitals re-signed right wing Stanislav Galiev to a two-year contract, signed defenseman Taylor Chorney to a one-year contract and forwards Carter Camper and Sean Collins and defenseman Mike Moore and Aaron Ness to one-year, two-way contracts.
