  • Whittenburg qualifies for all-around gymnastics final in World Championships

    Baltimore's Donnell Whittenburg led the United States men's gymnastics team to a third-place finish during qualifications Saturday at the World Championships in Nanning, China. The U.S. team earned a 360.393, behind China (362.698) and Japan (361.609). Whittenburg finished fourth in the all-around standings with a total score of 89.361 to advance to the all-around final. The Edgewood graduate posted the team's highest score (15.500) on the still rings after closing his routine with a double-twisting, double-back dismount. He again led the United States on the vault with a team-best 15.200 mark. On the parallel bars, his 15.533 score was high enough to qualify for the final. The men's team final will be held Tuesday, the men's all-around final Thursday and the individual event finals on Friday and Saturday.
