Huskies Meet Their Fast Start Goal, Beat Iona, 3-1

STORRS — It took the UConn men's soccer team four games to score a goal last year.

At Morrone Stadium Friday, the Huskies found the back of the net in the first minute of the new season.

After stressing the importance of a strong start, UConn did exactly what it wanted to in the opening minute against Iona. Senior Kwame Awuah collected a turnover in the midfield and fed sophomore forward Abdou Mbacke Thiam for a strike to the far corner. Iona responded a few minutes later with its own goal off a turnover, but the Huskies were looking at a far different start in 2016. And they didn't waste it.
