  • Ranking the college football bowl games from No. 38 to No. 1

The postseason is one "Kokomo Bowl" from becoming the next verse in a Beach Boys song: "Miami, Bahamas, come on pretty mamma, Camellia, and Boca, this is not a joke-a." Four new bowl games plus the extra championship game means the process of picking...
  • NU AD Jim Phillips praises Pat Fitzgerald ahead of 'important' year

The view from Jim Phillips’ office is mundane … a parking lot outside Ryan Field. Turn the other way and you can see why the Northwestern athletic director is so bullish about the future — a giant color depiction of the $260 million...

Teddy Greenstein's Big Ten bowl picks
Did you catch Central Michigan's Hail Mary/Cal lateral play at the end of the Bahamas Bowl? My immediate thought: I can't believe that didn't happen to Northwestern. The Wildcats didn't qualify for a bowl this season, but 10 Big Ten teams will line up to...
  • Northwestern coach Chris Collins not afraid to shake things up

Northwestern coach Chris Collins not afraid to shake things up
Chris Collins coaches the way you and I would. He was so disgusted with Northwestern's Dec. 17 home loss to Central Michigan, he changed the pregame routine. He removed the locker-room chairs so his players would stay upright and lathered as they...

One minute after Jim Harbaugh's news conference ended Sunday, the 49ers announced what everyone already assumed: The team would part ways with the coach who guided them to three consecutive NFC title games. "It's been the time of my life," Harbaugh ...
  • Postseason questions already aplenty for Northwestern

There's a time for deep thinking – and a time when it's better to be a dummy. Or to simplify, in football parlance. The deep thoughts will come at the end of this miserable Northwestern season, a campaign marked by the Wildcats' incredible...
  • Teddy Greenstein's Big Ten football picks

Teddy Greenstein's Big Ten football picks
Northwestern will break your heart — and your record against the spread. After witnessing the Wildcats' debacle at Iowa, there was no way I could pick them as a 1.5-point underdog to Michigan. The NU offense woke up late, but the Wildcats still...
  • Northwestern motivated to extend season for seniors with bowl game

Northwestern motivated to extend season for seniors with bowl game
People laugh at the awkward sponsor names of the bottom-tier bowl games. Hey, there's a Bitcoin Bowl! How many stadium nachos can one get me? But there's a serious side, too, and that became clear when cornerback Nick VanHoose spoke Monday about...
  • Teddy Greenstein predicts the Big Ten's bowl games

The biggest question regarding the Big Ten's new bowl system is not how it will work. It's why anyone didn't think of this sooner. For decades the bowls determined which teams they would invite. They based their decisions on potential ticket sales,...
  • Northwestern wants to keep 'one-game season' going

Northwestern wants to keep 'one-game season' going
Offensive lineman Brandon Vitabile reacted to a question about whether he had glanced at any bowl projections by adopting a poker face. Apparently that's a no-no for Northwestern players. Finally Vitabile cracked and asked: "They do those?" Yes,...
  • There were highs and lows aplenty during Big Ten season

There were highs and lows aplenty during Big Ten season
Let's all breathe a sigh of relief. The wussification of America is not complete. Gary Andersen scared us there with his Monday comments regarding the Paul Bunyan Axe. The Wisconsin coach said that the axe, a super-cool trophy awarded to the Minnesota-...
