With Another Great Captain, Yale Baseball In Good Hands With Richard Slenker

A year ago, Yale was in a one-game playoff to keep its baseball season alive, and third baseman Richard Slenker took a fastball — too high and too tight. Never flinched.

"I don't think you can learn it," Slenker said. "I've just always been a very competitive person. We sat through a [three]-hour rain delay and first pitch, I got crushed in the face and it kind of woke me up. I wanted to play in that game, that was it. I was able to put a good swing on the next pitch."

Next time up, Slenker homered, and he went 3-for-3 in Yale's win over Dartmouth.
