    The locomotive ground to a halt at New Haven's Union Station, and under plumes of heavy smoke and vented steam, hundreds of people burst out of the passenger cars. Bundled against the cold, most of the travelers hurried to a line of streetcars for a two-mile ride out Chapel Street and Derby Avenue to the Yale Bowl in New Haven, Conn.
