“Right before the game, Coach was basically like, ‘be ready, you’re going to play a lot tonight,’” Whaley said. “So I was just ready.”
Whaley, 6-foot-8 freshman from Gastonia, N.C., hadn’t played double-digit minutes since 15 in the season opener. He had two wisdom teeth extracted, one of which had become infected, and was out of commission for much of the last three weeks.
On Saturday, coach Kevin Ollie rewarded Eric Cobb and Mamadou Diarra for their recent encouraging play with starting assignments against Coppin State.
