There were only a few seconds remaining in the third quarter Monday night of an offensive performance that was nothing short of beautiful. Kia Nurse, who already had tied the NCAA Tournament record with nine three-pointers, squared for a 10th.
Standing a few paces away from Geno Auriemma, Nurse suddenly spotted Napheesa Collier under the basket. Pinpoint pass. Open layup. Third-quarter buzzer sounded. UConn had a 35-point lead.
In appreciation of both the art and the unselfishness, Auriemma pumped both his fists in the air. It was the 30th assist on 31 baskets and it would stand as the most poignant.
