There will be greater challenges for the Miami Heat in coming days -- in terms of emotion and quality of competition -- but what Erik Spoelstra's team needed Friday night at Madison Square Garden was a moment for optimism.

The NBA-worst New York Knicks obliged, with the Heat pushing through to a 111-87 victory Friday night in their return from a nine-day All-Star break.

"We hear all the time that this league is a business," Spoelstra said when the draining day was over. "But that doesn't mean you don't go through emotions."
