On The Fly: In NFL, Public Display Of Affection Draws A Flag

Apparently, there is no place in the NFL for expressing personal affection for officials. In what was considered a first in the history of the league, Seattle safety Earl Thomas drew an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty Sunday for hugging side judge Alex Kemp. Thomas had just returned a New Orleans fumble for a 34-yard touchdown and handed the football to a fan in the stands. Then he raced toward Kemp and embraced him for a few seconds. Kemp was not impressed. He immediately tossed his flag.

"I'm having fun, just excited about the moment," Thomas said. "Just an exciting moment. That's just how I celebrated."
