Sobel's Fundamental Voice Makes Pro-Am Difference

HARTFORD — Amid the sea of slam dunks, in-your-face moves and resounding blocked shots that fans of the Greater Hartford Pro-Am Basketball Showcase have come to expect, there is a different voice that has left a more fundamental imprint over the years.

Veteran coach Dr. Steve Sobel, of Longmeadow, Mass., who has run the Pauly Chute Slamm, is equally entertained by the fancy play, but he has been stressing basic team concepts from the Slamm sidelines since before the Springfield-based team was added to the Hartford lineup in 2004.
