    R ichard Hamilton officially retired Thursday. Rip helped lead UConn to its first men's basketball national title in 1999 as the Huskies beat Duke, 77-74. He was the Final Four MVP and had a game-high 27 points in the title game. He was the Big East player of the year in 1998 and 1999. Said UConn coach Jim Calhoun when Hamilton announced in May 1999 he was leaving UConn after his junior year: "He understands the game as well as any guy I've ever coached." Certainly that angers some, and he's no angel, but I simply find it sad.
