Terps guard Mincy drafted 27th overall by Liberty
Maryland senior guard Laurin Mincy was selected by the New York Liberty in the third round with the No. 27 pick overall in the 2015 WNBA draft Thursday night at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. Mincy was the Terps' leading scorer with 13.5 points per game this season as she helped lead the team to an 18-0 record in Big Ten play, the Big Ten tournament title and its second straight Final Four. The Liberty went 15-19 last season. The Washington Mystics selected Dayton forward Ally Malott in the first round (eighth overall). "We have had the opportunity to see Ally in person eight or nine times, as well as watch her practice," coach and general manager Mike Thibault said. "In my mind, she is the best definition of the modern "stretch four" in this draft. She is one of the best shooters in the draft at any position. She helps space the floor, can play around the basket and is a very good outlet passer to start the break." At Dayton, Malott averaged a career-high 15.5 points per game and 7.8 rebounds per game this season. She helped the Flyers to four NCAA tournament appearances and ranks seventh on the school's all-time list for points (1,504), rebounds (824) and 3-point field goal percentage (.358). Washington added Natasha Cloud in the second round (15th overall). Cloud, a 6-0 guard who started her college career at Maryland, transferred to Saint Joseph's, where this season she averaged a career-high 12.9 points per game while starting all 28 games and leading the Atlantic 10 in minutes per game (37.6). She was fifth in the nation among seniors in assists (6.6) and led the team in rebounds (163) and steals (50). In the third round (32nd overall), Washington added forward Marica Gajic from Bosnia Herzegovina.
