Tate George Sentenced To Nine Years In Prison

UConn basketball icon Tate George was sentenced to the maximum nine years in prison Thursday after being convicted of operating a real estate Ponzi scheme in which investors lost $2.55 million.

A former first-round draft pick in the NBA, George, 47, was also ordered to pay back the full $2.55 million to his 17 victims, who include former UConn star and NBA player Charlie Villaneuva. He also is subject to three years of supervised release after prison.

U.S. District Judge Mary Cooper also ordered a forfeiture judgment of $2.5 million, which means that George could eventually owe a combined total of $5 million if he were to win the lottery or receive a business windfall after...
