Pirates beat Nationals, 3-1, for series win

PITTSBURGH Gerrit Cole pitched 7 2/3 strong innings, Neil Walker homered and the Pirates beat the Washington Nationals, 3-1, at PNC Park Sunday to win the four-game series. The series against the National League East-leading Nationals drew four consecutive sellout crowds and a four-day attendance total of 151,952, a record for a four-game series at PNC Park. Cole (13-4) pitched at least seven innings and allowed two or fewer earned runs for the second start in a row. He allowed one run and seven hits without walking a batter Sunday and struck out eight.
