Readers' Q&A: Mark Gonzales' Cubs mailbag
The platoon outfield experiment is a disaster. None of the experienced outfielders can hit. Ryan Sweeney, Nate Schierholtz (a career .258 hitter - so forget his "slump") and Justin Ruggiano (couldn't hit before his injury and can't hit after) have devastated a team that could have been hovering near .500. Throw in Chris (.243 in AAA ball) Coghlan and Ryan Kalish, who was demoted (and wishes he could hit .243 in AAA ball) and it is the worst-hitting outfield in the league. My question is more of a plea: Tell me none of these guys will be back next year. Also, is there any thought of bringing up Arismendy Alcantara?  He is hitting .290 and would be a huge upgrade offensively over Darwin Barney. --Steve M., Chicago

    Mark Gonzales' Cubs mailbag

I've noticed over the past few years, it seems the Cubs are the only team that continues to deploy a left and right-handed lineup card depending on the starting pitcher. To me, that seems like it would be hard for anyone to get in a groove. Why not just...
