  • Regional Digest: Holowaty Selected For Hall Of Fame

Bill Holowaty, who won four NCAA Division III titles at Eastern Connecticut and had a 1,404-525-7 record in 45 years as coach, was selected for induction to the National College Baseball Hall of Fame in Lubbock, Texas. Holowaty will be inducted in late June with the seven other members of this year's class: players Lance Berkman (Rice), Al Holland (North Carolina A&T), Mike Kelly (Arizona State), Rick Reichardt (Wisconsin) and Frank Viola (St. John's), and coaches Larry Hays (Lubbock Christian, Texas Tech) and Joe Arnold (Florida Southern). Holowaty was named national coach of the year four times, and his 1,404 wins trail only 2009 inductee Gordie Gillespie and 2013 inductee Don Schaly on the Division III list. Holowaty was also recently selected for induction to the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association Hall of Fame. He is also a member of the American Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
