And, with Masahiro Tanaka and Kevin Gausman both locked in and throwing zeroes, one his club needed.
And so a non-balk call by third base umpire Chris Guccione with a runner on third and one out in the fourth inning incensed Girardi, who was soon ejected.
The runner, Starlin Castro, would be stranded and there were few scoring chances the rest of the way by either club.
Finally, the Orioles won it in the bottom of the 10th on Pedro Alvarez's sacrifice fly, handing the Yankees a dispiriting 1-0 loss that closed a dispiriting trip.
