His April performances were dominating and, in some cases, nearly historic. A sweeping slider, a fastball approaching 100 mph, a master's control of the strike zone, Chris Sale easily could be walking into May with a 5-0 record.

Instead his 1.19 ERA, his 0.77 WHIP, his major league-leading 52 strikeouts and opponent batting average of .177 has left Sale with two losses in three decisions.
