PITTSBURGH — Steven Matz knew very quickly that is wasn't going to be his day.
The Mets lefthander had his seven-game winning streak snapped as Jon Niese pitched seven scoreless innings against and Josh Harrison had three hits as the Pittsburgh Pirates beat New York 3-1 on Tuesday in the first game of a doubleheader.
In the second game, Juan Nicasio retired his first 12 batters and got his second win in six starts, and the Pirates won 3-1. Nicasio (5-4) allowed a run on three hits and two walks over five innings. Jacob deGrom (3-2) took the loss — he is winless in his last seven starts — after he allowed three runs in six innings with nine strikeouts and no walks.
