The harder the rain pounded Monday on Fenway Park, the harder the Red Sox seemed bent on pounding home their point.

They have each other's backs.

Dustin Pedroia said it. Matt Barnes said it. John Farrell said it.

The Red Sox handled the Manny Machado situation in Baltimore poorly. Pedroia's response Sunday was essentially to throw his manager and Barnes under the bus, which only stood to make it worse.

"We all talked about it, and we're going to keep it in house," Pedroia said after the first meeting of 2107 with the Yankees was postponed. "We feel good about each other. We all have each other's backs."
