As Treasurer's Race Heats Up, Dunkin' Donuts Park Becomes Flashpoint

Four years ago, Shawn Wooden hoisted a home plate announcing Hartford was “bringing baseball home.” The former city council president was among the first to champion a baseball stadium north of downtown.

Now, with Wooden vying to become state treasurer, his opponent in the race has taken issue with how much the stadium’s workers are being paid, saying Wooden negotiated a poor deal between Hartford and its minor league team that skirted a city wage ordinance.

Written into Hartford’s municipal code is an ordinance stipulating vaguely that employees of city-funded developments must be paid a “living wage.”
