Ex-Marlins sensation Willis retires from baseball

— One of the more beloved players to don the Marlins' uniform has called it a career.

Dontrelle Willis, 33, informed the Milwaukee Brewers he is retiring. The Brewers in January signed Willis, a seminal figure with the Marlins from 2003-'07, to a minor league contract with an invite to big league camp. He had not appeared in a Cactus League game for them.

Willis became an instant sensation and Marlins fan favorite upon his May 2003 promotion. His high leg-kick and vivaciousness made him a must-watch talent.
