The Chicago Cubs will promote highly touted catcher Willson Contreras on Friday.
The promotion is designed to get him acclimated to the majors in the same manner the team did last June with Kyle Schwarber before sending him back to Triple-A Iowa briefly, according to a source.
Contreras, 24, is batting .350 with nine home runs and 43 RBIs for Iowa.
Contreras drew rave reviews from several staffers and players in spring training.
Veterans David Ross and Miguel Montero expressed their willingness to mentor Contreras, in recent discussions with front office members, according to a source.
"He's going to be a beast," Montero said in March.
