BALTIMORE — Aaron Boone left CC Sabathia in too long — but Neil Walker didn’t do either of them any favors.

Walker’s misplay at first led to Danny Valencia’s go-ahead three-run homer off Sabathia in the sixth inning, and the Yankees suffered a bad 5-4 loss to the Orioles in Game 1 of their doubleheader on Monday afternoon at Camden Yards.

“We checked on him and felt like he was good to go and had more to offer,” Boone said, noting the decision to stick with Sabathia didn’t have to do with the twin-bill and saving pitchers for later on. Jonathan Holder was up at the time, and Boone said Valencia would’ve been Sabathia’s last batter regardless.
