NEW YORK – Twitter nearly exploded with old-fashioned Mets angst when Terry Collins took Noah Syndergaard out after one inning in Game 5 of the Division Series against the Dodgers. Collins went to his closer, Jeurys Familia, for a six-out save, something he had never done before.
Familia rewarded his manager's faith, retired all six, as, indeed, he retired all 16 batters he faced in that series.
"He's been a starting pitcher in the past," said Collins, who asked Familia to get four outs to save Game 1 of the NLCS, "so I know he has the ability to go multiple innings. He's big and strong."
