  • Markakis deserved better from Angelos

Let's see, Nick Markakis was a cornerstone player for the Orioles, a classy old school pro and good all-around player who suffered in silence and with dignity with solid, two-way on-the-field production through many of the horrid years and easily one of the 10 or 12 best O's of all-time who sold a lot of jerseys, helped put fans in the seats and sell popcorn to the easily-distracted and fooled masses and who should have started and finished his career in orange and black. He was a key component to the team's most recent and long-awaited success, and at age 31 he is still in his prime years of production and always plays hurt. He was a tough guy and tough out as well as an outstanding Gold Glove caliber defensive player who saved as many runs as he produced and has been without exception respected and beloved by managers, coaches, teammates and fans alike, the kind of player and man that a classy organization wants to see play their entire career wearing their uniform like the Atlanta Braves did with Chipper Jones and the Yankees did with Derek Jeter.
