Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Charlie Morton is out for the season because of a torn left hamstring.
Morton is scheduled for surgery on the hamstring next Monday and the recovery time is expected to be six-to-eight months.
"I feel bad for Charlie. Great guy. I feel bad for him and for us," Phillies manager Pete Mackanin said before Wednesday night's game against Washington. "He was starting to throw really well. It's a shame."
Morton was injured while running out of the batter's box on a sacrifice attempt during at Milwaukee on Saturday and went on the 15-day disabled list a day later.
