Cardinals edge Rockies on walk-off walk, 9-8

ST. LOUIS With two home runs and four hits, Cardinals third baseman Matt Carpenter ignited the St. Louis offense in a 9-8 victory against the Colorado Rockies on Thursday night at Busch Stadium. Carpenter, who was hitting in the leadoff spot, slugged a three-run home run in the top of the second inning and a solo shot in the top of the fifth. All four of his RBIs were off Rockies starter Chris Rusin, who allowed 10 total hits and six earned runs in five innings.
